EOBA Stands for Justice, Rebuilding Trust & Serving the Community
On March 3, 2025, news broke of the alleged financial mismanagement by former EOBA Executive Director Solomon Howard (2017–2021). This was a devastating moment for our community but one that EOBA had been preparing for.
EOBA has always stood for integrity, discipline, and responsibility—values we instill in the youth we serve. When we uncovered financial irregularities, we took action, raising concerns that led to a full investigation to protect our mission, our supporters, and—most importantly—the children who rely on us.
We condemn the alleged actions that led to the misuse of funds and betrayal of trust. These violations harmed our organization and undermined the faith of donors, partners, and the very community we serve. Despite this, EOBA remains steadfast in our commitment to rebuilding trust and ensuring this never happens again.
Restoring Integrity & Strengthening EOBA
EOBA fully cooperated with authorities and has taken decisive steps to ensure absolute transparency and accountability. We have implemented:
Independent Audits & Compliance Reviews – Strengthened financial oversight to maintain accountability.
Checks & Balances – Reinforced governance policies to prevent mismanagement.
Leadership Reform – A dedicated team committed to responsible stewardship and ethical leadership.
These changes have fortified EOBA’s foundation, allowing us to continue providing critical services to East Oakland's youth.
EOBA is Still Open & Stronger Than Ever
Despite the challenges, EOBA has never closed its doors. We remain a pillar of hope and opportunity, offering:
A thriving Computer Lab where kids gain digital literacy and academic support.
Multi-sport programming fosters teamwork and discipline, including boxing, basketball, soccer, and gardening.
Cooking classes teach youth how to prepare healthy meals while learning about nutrition.
A food pantry serving over 350 families weekly, ensuring access to fresh, nutritious food in an area classified as a food desert.
Moving Forward: A Call for Support & Partnership
We acknowledge the pain and distrust caused by past leadership, but EOBA has emerged stronger, wiser, and more resilient. We are committed to earning back the confidence of our supporters and continuing to serve the youth who need us most.
We invite our community, funders, and partners to support our progress toward transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to the children of East Oakland.
